ArtBase is a creative learning programme, intended to develop lasting and beneficial relationships between parents/carers, their children and the schools they attend, thus extending the role of each school as a community resource.
The adults – be they parents, grandparents or other carers – enjoy the opportunity to work one-to-one with their child, learning new skills, gaining ideas for creative activities and generally having fun together.
Participating schools provide crèche facilities for other children in the family – to ensure the adult/child pair can get the most out of their one-to-one time together – and volunteer staff are on hand to assist in the activities, and make the tea.
The creative activities are delivered by professional artists, currently Sophie Fox and Jemma Watts. Suffolk Artlink is indebted to these artists for creating the fabulous blog sites that showcase the amazing work created during the sessions.
Located in north Lowestoft, Artbase was launched at Northfields Primary School in January 2013. In September 2013 sessions began at Woods Loke and St Margaret’s Primary Schools; the programme begins at Poplars Community Primary School in January 2014.
The project is managed by Suffolk Artlink as part of the Suffolk County Council Creative Learning Collaborative, and is funded by Arts Council England.
